Visitation Policy
Applies To: All residents, visitors, and staff
Purpose
To ensure residents of Manor on 1st Assisted Living may receive visitors of their choosing while preserving resident rights, privacy, dignity, and safety, in accordance with Utah Administrative Code R432-270.
Policy Statement
Manor on 1st Assisted Living supports and protects each resident’s right to receive visitors of their choosing, at the time of their choosing. Visitation is not restricted by visiting hours and is encouraged as an important part of emotional well-being, family connection, and quality of life.
Visitation practices shall be resident-centered, non-discriminatory, and implemented in the least restrictive manner necessary to ensure safety and compliance with applicable laws.
Definitions
Visitor: Any individual chosen by the resident, including but not limited to family members, friends, clergy, advocates, healthcare providers, or support persons.
Essential Support Person: A visitor identified by the resident to provide emotional support, companionship, or assistance with communication or decision-making.
General visitation
guidelines
- Visitation is permitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Residents may receive visitors in their private apartment or in designated common areas.
- No appointment is required for routine visits.
- Residents may change or revoke visitation permissions at any time.
Visitors are expected to respect:
- Resident privacy and dignity
- Quiet hours
- Mealtimes and scheduled activities
- The privacy of other residents
After-hours access & building security
To ensure resident safety while
maintaining open visitation:
- The community utilizes a secure badge-in/badge-out access system
- Visitors arriving after hours who do not have badge access may gain entry by:
- Calling the designated after-hours assistance phone number, which is posted at the main entrance.
- Staff will respond promptly to provide access and assistance.
This system is intended solely for building security and does not restrict visitation rights.
Resident rights
Residents have the right to:
- Choose who may visit and when
- Receive private visits
- Refuse or discontinue visits at any time
- Designate support persons or essential visitors
- Access visitors without discrimination based on relationship, gender identity, or other protected characteristics
Health & safety
considerations
Visitation restrictions may
only be implemented when:
- Required by local, state, or federal public health authorities; or
- Necessary to address a documented, immediate safety concern.
Any limitation will:
- Be resident-specific
- Be least restrictive
- Be time-limited
- Be documented
- Be communicated to residents and responsible parties
Infection prevention
Visitors may be asked to:
- Perform hand hygiene upon entry
- Postpone visitation if experiencing symptoms of illness
- Follow reasonable infection-control practices during outbreaks
Limitation or
denial of visitation
Visitation may be
limited only when:
- Requested by the resident
- A visitor poses a documented safety risk
- A legal order or court directive exists
Any limitation will be documented in the resident record and reviewed regularly.
Complaints & concerns
Residents and visitors may voice concerns without fear of retaliation. Concerns may be directed to:
- Executive Director or Administrator on Duty
- Community leadership team
- Utah Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program
Responsibility
The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring this policy is implemented consistently and in accordance with Utah Administrative Code R432-270.
